Tramshed Ventilation System

Technical Services love to work in demanding and challenging environments - Hix Tramshed certainly falls under this category. A grade II listed restaurant on Garden Walk and Rivington Street, the Tramshed asked Technical Services to design and install a ventilation system that required careful acoustic considerations.

The building was designed by Vincent Harris and built in 1905 as an electricity generating facility for the Tramway System. The building design has a mezzanine floor (offering private elevated dining for 36 guests) and a basement that houses the Cock ’n’ Bull gallery. Unique building structure and cooking methods demand a specialist kitchen extract air purification system to meet strict local authority and planning requirements.

Technical Services were able to provide a solution. Through our experience in building services, air conditioning, mechanical services and design, we collaborated to implement a system that allows the whole building to work as a machine with clean air that circulates and meets all operational requirements for staff, guests and the local authority. As the chefs cook on coals the air needs to be circulated, and extracted with speed and efficiency.

Complying with legislature and maintaining the venue’s striking looks and history was demanding and challenging. However an effective ventilation system was put into operation, adding Hix Tramshed to the list of iconic London venues Technical Services have worked with.
